I definitely needed a refresher on star life cycles since I took Intro Astronomy a few years ago. We call this type of explosion a "Type Ia supernova" ("Type Ia" is a historical moniker from before we understood what was exploding), and the supernova completely obliterates the white dwarf. Eventually, in 100 trillion years, the last stars will have died, all that remains are their corpses: white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes. Michael Muno is an astrophysicist who uses Chandra, among other telescopes, to study some of the most exotic objects in the Universe: white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes. Once the last of the red dwarfs exhaust their fuel, all nuclear fusion in the universe will have ceased. The RXTE had an observatory mission, using X-ray wavelength emissions to study the environment around white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes. White dwarfs are the hot, dense leftover cores of ex-stars. We can't hope to create extremely strong gravity in the lab, so we need to look outwards into space for things like black holes, neutron stars and white dwarfs. Most of the material that formed the star is ejected into space in a supernova explosion, but the core of the star collapses to form a compact remnant which must be a white dwarf, a neutron star or a black hole. The trio would thereby be sensitive to the gravitational waves produced by small, dense objects orbiting one another, objects like white dwarfs, neutron stars and, most excitingly, black holes. I like that you included the actual masses at which stars will become either a white dwarf, neutron star, or black hole.
